An adaptation by Pat Parelli of the traditional Spanish Mecate (horse-hair) reins. Superior quality rope is smooth on hands and offers ultimate feel. Reins are easily adjusted to lengthen or shorten the loop according to purpose. Lengthen lead rope up to twenty-two feet or fully extend the loop for ground driving reins.

Offering the same benefits of our Horseman’s Reins but with a more traditional feel, our Mecate Reins come in a variety of colors designed to recall the classic look of the Spanish Mecate. With the Mecate Rein, the rider is able to utilize up to 22-feet of easily adjustable rope. The perfect combination of practicality and traditional style, the Parelli Mecate Reins are sure to become a fixture in your tack room.

Parelli’s Romel Reins feature a 4-foot Romel at the end of the rein (the same length as a Parelli Carrot Stick), which allows you to utilize the same communication techniques with the reins as you would with a Carrot Stick. The buttons, or weights, act as counterbalances, slowing and quieting your hands while quickening the release. Romel Reins are excellent communication tools that prove useful far beyond the show ring!
